Bed Time Tips for your little~ big kid

I have had challenges with our bedtime routine ever since my oldest child came wiggling into this world. My newest challenge as my K-5 big girl goes to bed....It plays out like this...
She goes to her room right at 8:00. We read. Her little sister falls nigh nigh. Little big girl Tabitha tosses and turns. I rub her back, massage her legs and this helps a lot but she is still restless. What do I do??
My Tip: Simply ask your child what she is thinking ~Tabitha and I lay quietly in the dark. I look to her and say, "what are you thinking about?" She opens up immediately and tells me what is on her mind. She then turns over and falls deep into dream land.
I love our new routine. Instead of getting frustrated, I give an open door to my daughters heart. She invites me in and we share what is on her mind. What a gift. What a joy!
Children at this age have so many new experiences which can lead to questions or concerns...

How wonderful that you can start that now, so when she's a young lady she won't have to wonder if you want to know or how to bring things up because it will feel natural... you've caught her before she learned the typical "nothing" answer to that question! Good mama!!!
What a great idea! and so simple! I love it! I think I will try this next time I can't get B to go down - thansk!
