September National Baby Safety Month Time for Med Basics!

September is National Baby Safety Month. We all want our babies to be safe. No doubt about that! But are we prepared for an emergency at home or on the go? Most of us have read many books on making our homes baby safe...but are they?

Our friends at Med Basics asked that question....Parents and caregivers want to think they are prepared for an emergency....but did you know that the average EMS response time to a 911 call in urban areas is more than 8 minutes (in most locations with less density, response times are even longer). Once your infant or toddler's heart stops beating brain damage from a lack of oxygen can occur within 4 minutes and death shortly thereafter. Tara and Luke at Med Basics  understand how crucial those first minutes are which is why they designed their products to be accessible within seconds.

Tara and Luke are  friends and guest writers here at our Blessed Nest Perch. We are so excited to be announcing the arrival of their products and we will be offering them at Blessed Nest.com

Tara is a RN, BSN. She teaches infant and children’s CPR and first aid courses in NYC.

Luke is a MD, board certified in Emergency Medicine. He is currently on academic faculty at a major NY teaching hospital.

A Note From Tara and Luke:

Because Luke and I are parents we really do understand how anxiety producing these situations can be. It’s scary to think about. It’s intimidating. But honestly, if a medical emergency occurs, parents and caregivers need to know what to do and need someone to help them through those panicked situations. That is why we created MEDBASICS®.

FAQ:

Q. Isn't this information available in a book I already have or on a web site somewhere?

As a simple test, ask yourself these questions: "If my child began choking during a meal in my house would I know where to immediately find the text or other resource that could show me what to do? Once I've located the resource, do I know exactly where the essential information is located? Once I've found the specific section I need, does the resource walk me through each step, showing me how to handle the emergency in clear, easy to understand language? If your answer to any of these questions is "no" or I' don't know", you understand why we started MEDBASICS®. The minutes saved by eliminating your frantic search for cpr and first aid instruction can be used to help your baby which ultimately might be the very thing that saves her life.

I personally have a travel pack and can't imagine what I did without one. I can feel rest assured that if I panic..the info I need is in arms reach and easy to read! Having a Med Basics pack also gives me the peace of mind when my children are in the care of a loved one other then myself!

We will be hosting a giveaway from Med Basics on September 15th!
